Resolutions

18 for 2018

I have always enjoyed the notion of resolutions. Every December I sit down with a notebook and review the past year’s resolutions, trying to determine how I stacked up against things like “spend more time with my kids” and “exercise more.”

More is not easily defined. Except with exercise, because anything is more than zero.

I am a Gretchen Rubin fangirl, so when she presented the idea of 18 for 2018 on her podcast, Happier, I jumped at the idea. The notion is the get very specific with the items you put on the list and then review it often. While I still aim to do things like call my Grandma more often and get to the gym more than before, having a concrete list of things I can measurably accomplish is soothing to someone who is a smidge type A like me.

  1. Plan a date with my husband that isn’t dinner
  2. Plan fun birthday adventures for both kids
  3. Backup all the videos on my phone
  4. Update our legal documents
  5. Read the Harry Potter series
  6. Try watercolor painting
  7. Learn basic ASL
  8. Complete part 1 of the presidential reading challenge
  9. Try aerial yoga
  10. Take my daughter to an indoor trampoline park
  11. Organize our laundry/storage room
  12. Prepare more thoughtful birthday gifts
  13. Go to a float tank
  14. Find a new physician
  15. Do more than think about and debate the need for stricter gun laws
  16. Convert to a greener beauty routine
  17. Do the splits
  18. Leave room for fun
